Edible Glitter Galaxy Smoothie — 26g Protein, Under $4

The edible glitter drink trend is one of the most visually striking things to come out of food social media in a while, and this version turns it into something that is not just beautiful but genuinely high in protein and worth making on a Tuesday. A base of frozen blueberries, Greek yogurt, and banana blended into a deep purple smoothie, then finished with food-safe edible glitter or luster dust stirred through at the last moment — the result is a drink that shimmers and shifts in the light in a way that looks genuinely spectacular and photographs unlike anything else on the blog. At 26 grams of protein and under four dollars including the glitter, this is the trending smoothie that belongs on your Pinterest feed and in your glass.

Edible Glitter Galaxy Smoothie

Total Time 5 minutes
Servings: 1
Calories: 340

Ingredients

  • 1 cup frozen blueberries
  • 1/2 frozen banana
  • 3/4 cup plain Greek yogurt
  • 1/2 cup low-fat milk of choice
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tsp honey
  • 1/4 to 1/2 tsp food-safe edible glitter or edible luster dust in silver gold, or purple — available online or in baking supply stores
  • Optional: a few fresh blueberries and a light additional dusting of edible glitter on top to serve

Method

  1. Add the frozen blueberries and frozen banana to the blender first.
  2. Add the Greek yogurt, milk, vanilla extract, and honey.
  3. Blend on high for 30–45 seconds until completely smooth and deeply purple.
  4. Pour into a tall clear glass — a clear glass is essential for showing the shimmer effect.
  5. Add the edible glitter or luster dust directly to the smoothie in the glass.
  6. Stir gently with a long spoon or straw using slow circular motions — the glitter will begin to shimmer and catch the light as it disperses.
  7. Do not blend the glitter in — adding it after pouring and stirring by hand gives the best visual effect.
  8. Top with a few fresh blueberries on the rim and an extra dusting of glitter over the top if using.
  9. Serve immediately in good natural light for maximum visual impact.

Notes

Food-safe edible glitter and luster dust are available online for around two to three dollars for a small jar that provides enough for many recipes. Make sure to specifically purchase edible glitter labelled as food-safe — decorative craft glitter is not the same thing and must never be consumed. Frozen blueberries and banana do all the flavour and protein work here at minimal cost, making the glitter the only premium ingredient. Silver or purple luster dust produces the most dramatic visual effect against the deep purple smoothie base.
