Beef and Broccoli Stir-Fry (34g Protein, Under $10 for Two)

A quick beef and broccoli stir-fry in a glossy garlic sauce — a budget dinner for two with 34g of protein per serving, ready in 25 minutes for under $10 total. This is my faster, cheaper version of the takeout order I used to get every Friday. The sauce comes together while the beef sears, and it’s on the table before delivery would even leave the restaurant.

Beef and Broccoli Stir-Fry

Total Time 25 minutes
Servings: 2
Calories: 460

Ingredients

  • 12 oz flank or sirloin steak thinly sliced
  • 3 cups broccoli florets
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 3 cloves garlic minced
  • 1/4 cup low-sodium soy sauce
  • 2 tbsp oyster sauce
  • 1 tbsp brown sugar
  • 1 tsp cornstarch mixed with 2 tbsp water
  • 2 cups cooked rice
  • Sesame seeds for garnish

Method

  1. Heat 1 tablespoon of oil in a large skillet or wok over high heat. Sear the beef in a single layer for 1-2 minutes per side, then remove and set aside.
  2. Add the remaining oil and the broccoli, stir-frying for 3-4 minutes until bright green and just tender.
  3. Add the garlic and cook 30 seconds until fragrant.
  4. Whisk together the soy sauce, oyster sauce, and brown sugar, then pour into the skillet.
  5. Stir in the cornstarch slurry and cook 1-2 minutes until the sauce thickens.
  6. Return the beef to the skillet and toss to coat. Serve over rice, garnished with sesame seeds.

Notes

Buy a flank or sirloin steak on sale and slice it thin yourself — pre-cut stir-fry beef usually carries a noticeable markup for the same cut.
