Chocolate Protein Mug Cake (20g Protein, Ready in 5 Minutes)

A single-serving chocolate protein mug cake made in the microwave — 20g of protein, ready in 5 minutes for about $1.30 a serving. This is what I make when I want dessert right now, not in twenty minutes. One mug, one microwave, and it comes out soft and chocolatey instead of dry and rubbery like most protein mug cakes.

Ingredients

  • 1 scoop chocolate protein powder
  • 2 tbsp flour or oat flour
  • 1 tbsp cocoa powder
  • 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1 tbsp honey or maple syrup
  • 1 tbsp mini chocolate chips
  • Pinch of salt

Method

  1. In a large mug, whisk together the protein powder, flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt.
  2. Add the milk and honey, stirring until smooth with no dry lumps.
  3. Fold in the chocolate chips.
  4. Microwave on high for 60-75 seconds, until the center is just set.
  5. Let cool for a minute before eating straight from the mug.

Notes

Use unsweetened cocoa powder instead of a flavored baking mix — it’s cheaper by weight and lets you control the sweetness with honey you already have.
